What is radiologic technology? Radiologic technology is the technical science that deals with the use of X-rays or radioactive substances for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in medicine. What is a radiologic technologist? A radiologic technologist that specializes in the use of X-rays to create images of the body is a radiographer. Radiographers perform a wide variety of diagnostic X-ray procedures, including examinations of the skeletal system, the chest and abdomen.
They administer contrast media to visualize the gastrointestinal tract and genitourinary system. They also assist the radiologist during more specialized contrast media procedures, such as those used to visualize the spinal cord myelography and the joint spaces arthrography. What does our program offer? Please note there are evening clinical rotations about two or three days per month from 11 a. From 2nd Semester through 4th Semester, every five weeks there is one eight-hour clinical rotation on the weekend with the Monday preceding the weekend rotation.

Our main diagnostic section includes six procedure rooms that use computed radiography systems and digital radiography. Radiographic equipment is located in the surgery and emergency departments. Mobile units are used throughout the hospital.
In addition, we use a state-of-the-art picture archival and communications system PACS. This innovation allows the production and interpretation of radiographs to be accomplished with computer systems as opposed to traditional film-based methods. The Diagnostic Imaging Center is a separate facility - located on the Emory Decatur Hospital Campus - which offers outpatient diagnostic services.
Upon completion of all competencies, the student may select two elective rotations in the specialty areas excluding Diagnostic Breast Center. The Radiologic Licensure program ensures standards of knowledge and skill for operators who apply radiation to humans for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. Through continuous enforcement, initiative and action, the program assures medical patients receive quality diagnostic imaging and services. The program is funded by initial license application fees, renewal fees and educational provider fees.

This program prepares students to become radiologic technologists. The standards for educational programs are stated in the document entitled "Standards for an Accredited Program for Radiographer" which is available upon request. Radiologic Technology is a science which requires the Registered Radiologic Technologist or RT to use various medical diagnostic equipment to create images of patients bodies which help doctors diagnose and treat injuries and disease. The RT utilizes a combination of technical knowledge, knowledge of anatomy, radiation protection methods and human compassion to safely create quality medical images. An RT registered in Diagnostic Radiography or RT R performs procedures that create static and dynamic images of bones, soft tissue organs and the vascular system.
