Filmmaker Lee Loechler knew that his girlfriend, Dr. Sthuthi David, loved the animated movie "Sleeping Beauty," so he decided to bring the film to life for her. Loechler worked with animator Kayla Coombs for six months to edit himself and David into the classic film. He then rented out a movie theater and invited the couple's family and friends to watch him pop the question. Loechler still liked the idea for his proposal to David a few years later, but he was unsure of how to make it work because he only works on live-action films.

Verified Purchase. A wonderful adaptation, wonderfully acted. There are a few instances from the book left out of the film. As much as I loved them in the former they turned out to be unimportant in the latter because none of the heart and soul was lost. Yes, there is a bit of that; however, it is just the right amount to tell this lovely story and with all the cruelty and suffering in the world today One of my favorites books has now become one of my favorites movies.

Very faithful and loving film adaptation. Follows the book probably more than any other film verision of a book I have ever seen. Funny, heartwarming, heartwrenching, everything you felt during the book, you will feel watching the movie.

Even the housing development was how I pictured it. The acting is wonderful, especially all three actors that play Ove. The young adult Ove looks so similar to the present day Ove you can believe the actors must be father and son. Parvaneh is wonderful also, would love a sequel written about her and her family.

And for those people giving this wonderful movie one star because they couldn't see the subtitles Take it up with Amazon. Rate the movie, not the fact your device can't handle it. Mine couldnt, and I contacted Amazon to find out the reason why turns our my blu-ray is too old a model. Thats my problem, not Amazon's. We are able to view it another way. I'd never heard or this book, but bought it based on the reviews I read on Amazon. Took the book on vacation with a friend. I was laughing and OhMyGod!

I was quite shocked as her genre is the creepy horror stuff that makes me want to hide under the covers. I loved it. It's a beautiful story. The characters are unforgettable.

Get this book, you will love it. Then get the movie, it's just as good. I can count on one hand how many foreign, subtitled movies I have watched in my 65 years here on Earth. You ready for that count? Yup, that's it, just this one. I hesitated because of the subtitles. I am a strong reader, however, given that through the years many friends complain about subtitles, such to the degree that I have always shied away from such movies. Before finding this movie last night, not only was I unaware of this movie but did not know that it was based on a book; therefore, my impression of this movie is unbiased.

Ove begins the movie almost an ogre; he's rough, gruff, zero patience, insulting, rude, narcissistic, sad, lonely, and quite angry with life.

As his life slowly unfolds, one begins to understand Ove and why he became such a thorn in life's side. This is truly a movie based on the 60's proclamation of, "I need to find myself'.

Ove, meet Ove. Ove, I owe you a mountain of gratitude. In many ways, my life parallels Ove's, and in many ways, I've become most of the adjectives on my above list. Through Ove, I see myself, but more importantly, I see those around me through Ove's opened eyes.

As his character begins to grow, understand, learn and reshape himself, I see an important lesson for myself in this movie.

As Ove turned a corner, so too must I turn that same corner. I only hope I can make that turn with the same grace and dignity that Ove found within himself.

Perhaps we, as a nation, can embrace the words of George H. Bush and become a 'Kinder and gentler nation'. Wouldn't that be just grand?

Watching this movie now, and would suggest that for those that are unaware, you have to activate the subtitles, left button on the top right corner of your screen. This lovely film about Ove and his ongoing love affair with his late wife Sonja and his grudging love of life without her is a poignant delight and no small part of its beauty is its basis in diversity, the kind of real diversity that supports life in so many small groups of loving neighbors.

I loved this movie! I read the book a couple of months ago and quickly fell in love with Ove. The determination this grumpy man had, the way things needed to be just so and follow the rules. I laughed and cried as the scenes unfolded. I could picture people who would give up a relationship with Ove; but then could see how others would fall into step with and love him. Of course, the movie couldn't put all the scenes and facts the book could offer, but the essence of the novel was captured.

I'm not typically a fan of moves with subtitles, but this movie was everything I could have asked for and more. The characters were true to the "pictures" I had formed in my mind's eye while enjoying the book.

I have not read the book so I came to it with no preconceived expectations. Ove had only been a widower 6 months which is no time at all to grieve for a wife who was his whole reason for being. He said that before her there was nothing and after her there is nothing. The neighbors and friends who innocently annoyed him were real and we've all known people just like them. They don't realize they are overstepping, being obnoxious, intruding, but intrude they do which is the best thing that can happen to him.

He's tricked into babysitting and teaching a neighbor to drive. He is forced to stay alive and participate because they seem so incompetent he can't stand by and watch them mess up. The cat he defended when someone threw rocks at it ended up being his cat and he was particular about its feeding and care after previously running it off his property.

We notice that he defends the underdog as needed. In spite of his suffering deeply in the loss of his mate he manages to prevent a frenemy from being forced into a nursing home. It's a great movie. I did not give 5 stars because even though I loved it I will not watch it again and if I give 5 stars I'll be watching it again.

However, I might read the book. See all reviews from the United States. Top international reviews. What a wonderful film. Lots of laughter and sadness, and I was genuinely moved. This may not be to everyone's tastes, but it struck a chord with me. It is about a grumpy old man who has had enough of life, but it turns out he a genuinely good guy despite his constant grumpiness, who helps everyone despite his outer demeanour. The movie tells his entire life story jumping between the past and the present, which is a feat in itself, but it is very cleverly done.

This is a movie where you end up genuinely caring for the characters and I was in tears more than once, followed by loud laughing moments later. I will have a new respect for the older generation in the future.

This probably appeals more to anyone over the age of 35 than the younger generation, but everyone could learn a lot from this movie.

I got the Swedish language version of the movie from Amazon, so watch out for which one you are getting, as there are many different region DVDs with different options for language and subtitles. Thank you for your feedback.
